(WNY News Now) – Westfield – A Westfield man faces multiple charges after allegedly ramming his SUV into a fleeing vehicle during a domestic incident and providing false information to police.

The Westfield Police Department has arrested Robert W. Strang 3rd, 53, following an investigation into a domestic incident that escalated into a dangerous traffic situation. The incident occurred on September 13, 2024, in the Village of Westfield, involving a confrontation between Strang and a female at 34 Washington Street.

According to police reports, Strang allegedly called 911 around 1:57 AM, claiming that the female had attacked him and damaged his vehicle by backing into it. However, after further investigation, authorities determined that Strang’s account was false. Police believe Strang was involved in a domestic altercation with the woman, who fled the scene in her vehicle. Strang then reportedly pursued her in his Chevrolet SUV, repeatedly ramming her car at the intersection of Clinton Street and Franklin Street.

After the collision, Strang allegedly fled the scene, returning home and misleading police with a fabricated version of events. Upon concluding their investigation, the Westfield Police Department issued a warrant for Strang’s arrest. He was taken into custody on September 22, 2024, and transported to Chautauqua County Jail for arraignment.

Strang faces several charges, including criminal mischief in the second degree, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and falsely reporting an incident. He also faces multiple traffic violations such as leaving the scene of a property damage accident, speed not reasonable, unregistered motor vehicle, and failure to stop at a stop sign. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
