(WNY News Now) – A late-night traffic stop in Jamestown led to the arrest of a local fugitive found with methamphetamine after attempting to evade officers on foot.

Jamestown, N.Y. – In the early hours of October 3, 2024, Jamestown Police officers from the 3rd Platoon observed a vehicle violating traffic laws on Lakeview Avenue. This prompted a traffic stop at around 2:04 AM. The vehicle’s operator, later identified as 49-year-old Jamestown resident Victor J. Cameron, initially refused to pull over, leading officers on a brief vehicle pursuit.

Cameron eventually stopped at a residence on the North Side, where he exited the vehicle and fled on foot. After a short foot chase, officers apprehended him. Upon his arrest, it was discovered that Cameron had an active arrest warrant from Warren County, Pennsylvania, and a bench warrant from the Town of Ellicott Police Department.

During the encounter, officers also found a quantity of methamphetamine in Cameron’s possession. He faces multiple charges, including Fugitive from Justice (Felony), Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree (Misdemeanor), Aggravated Unlicensed Operator 2nd Degree (Misdemeanor), and various vehicle and traffic violations.

Cameron is currently being held pending arraignment at Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
