(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. – A trio of men faces serious allegations of stealing mail following their arrest in the early hours of October 2, 2024. U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced today that Michael Robinson, 32, Lamor Runell Bolden, 26, and Antonio Jones, Jr., 24, have been charged with conspiracy and theft of mail, offenses that could lead to a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
According to the criminal complaint, investigators were monitoring the Cayuga Road Post Office when they observed suspicious activity. At approximately 1:30 a.m., a dark-colored SUV entered the post office driveway and stopped near the back of the blue mailboxes, an area typically accessed by postal employees. This unusual behavior raised immediate concerns among law enforcement.
Two individuals were seen exiting the SUV, with one appearing to use a key to unlock the back access door of the mailboxes, while the other acted as a lookout. After successfully accessing the contents, the pair returned to the vehicle and fled the scene.
Law enforcement maintained surveillance and eventually intercepted the vehicle, initiating a traffic stop conducted by the Cheektowaga Police. Upon inspection, officers discovered a significant amount of mail, both sealed and opened, alongside an arrow key, commonly used by postal employees for mailbox access.
The investigation leading to these charges was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, overseen by Special Agent-in-Charge Ketty Larco-Ward of the Boston Division, in collaboration with the Cheektowaga Police Department, under Chief Brian Coons.
As the legal proceedings unfold, it is important to note that a charge is merely an accusation, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
