(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, NY — A Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo, warning residents of Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie Counties to prepare for the possibility of heavy lake-effect snow. The watch is in effect from Friday morning through Monday morning.

Storm Details

  • What: Heavy lake-effect snow with accumulations of 7 inches or more. Wind gusts may reach up to 30 mph.
  • Where: Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie Counties.
  • When: November 29 through December 2, spanning the busy post-Thanksgiving travel weekend.

Impact Analysis

The storm’s duration and intensity could make travel very difficult to impossible in affected areas. Narrow snow bands may lead to poor visibility and rapidly changing road conditions. Major roadways may experience temporary closures, posing challenges for those returning from Thanksgiving festivities.

“There’s considerable uncertainty in exact band placement and snow amounts,” the NWS reported. However, the potential for multiple periods of heavy snowfall demands vigilance. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm activity and to monitor weather updates closely.
