(WNY News Now) – This holiday season, Niagara County law enforcement joins a statewide effort to reduce impaired driving and save lives.
Niagara County Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti has announced the county’s participation in the STOP-DWI Holiday Season High Visibility Engagement Campaign, a statewide initiative to prevent impaired driving during the busy holiday season.
The campaign, running from December 11 to January 1, aims to enhance public safety by reducing alcohol- and drug-related crashes. Law enforcement agencies throughout Niagara County will work alongside officers across New York State, ramping up efforts to identify and stop impaired drivers.
The STOP-DWI Holiday High Visibility Engagement Campaign is a collaborative effort led by STOP-DWI New York and supported by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. This annual campaign targets not only the holiday season but other major events throughout the year, including Independence Day, Labor Day, and Halloween.
While previous initiatives have successfully lowered alcohol- and drug-related fatalities, crashes caused by impaired driving continue to claim lives.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to drive responsibly and plan ahead by designating sober drivers or utilizing rideshare options during the holidays. Niagara County law enforcement remains committed to ensuring safe roadways for all.
