(WNY News Now) – Syracuse, NY – A series of burglaries in the early hours of Wednesday, December 11, has left several local businesses damaged and shaken. Syracuse Police are investigating the incidents, which appear to be connected.
Between 1:34 a.m. and 3:44 a.m., officers responded to five burglary calls across the city.
- 1:34 a.m., Wolf Street: Officers responded to the 800 block of Wolf Street for a burglary alarm. When they arrived, they found that the front glass window of a business was smashed, but no entry was made into the business. The suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival.
- 1:40 a.m., Burnet Avenue: Officers responded to the 3400 block of Burnet Avenue for a report of a burglary. When they arrived, they found the front shop door of the business to be smashed. An investigation determined that the suspects in the previous incident had gained entry to this business and stolen a vehicle, driving it through the front shop door of the business, before committing the attempted burglary on Wolf Street. This vehicle was located outside of the business on Wolf Street.
- 2:05 a.m., Butternut Street: Officers responded to the 1400 block of Butternut Street for a burglary alarm. When they arrived, they found the front door of a business to be broken. An amount of cash and tobacco products were taken from the business.
- 2:47 a.m., Butternut Street: Officers responded to the 800 block of Butternut Street for a burglary alarm. When they arrived, they found the front door of a business to be broken. An amount of cash and tobacco products were also stolen from this business.
- 3:44 a.m., South Avenue: Officers responded to the 1200 block of South Avenue for a report of a burglary. When they arrived, they found that entry had been made into a business through a boarded up door. Items were also stolen from this business.
The Syracuse Police Department is actively investigating the incidents, which they believe are linked. Businesses are urged to enhance security measures while authorities work to identify the perpetrators.
