(WNY News Now) – A traffic stop for minor violations led Dunkirk police to uncover over 1.5 ounces of suspected cocaine, resulting in felony charges against a Buffalo man.

DUNKIRK, NY – A routine traffic stop escalated into a significant drug arrest on January 7, 2025, when Dunkirk Police officers discovered over 1.5 ounces of suspected cocaine packaged for distribution.

Around 4:11 PM, officers stopped a vehicle near East 5th Street and Washington Avenue for observed traffic violations. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Lazaro H. Pintuele-Gonzalez of Buffalo, was found to have suspended New York State driving privileges.
During the investigation, officers uncovered narcotics in the vehicle, leading to Pintuele-Gonzalez’s arrest. The suspected cocaine, seized from the scene, was packaged in a manner consistent with street-level sales, police said.
Pintuele-Gonzalez faces multiple charges, including two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree (B Felony), one with intent to sell. Additional charges include Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 2nd Degree and various traffic infractions.
Authorities obtained a warrant to formally arrest Pintuele-Gonzalez the following day. He remains in custody at Dunkirk Police Headquarters, awaiting arraignment.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
