(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, effective until 7:00 AM EST on Friday, January 17. Residents in Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie Counties should prepare for hazardous travel conditions due to accumulating snow.

Expected Conditions:

  • Snowfall Amounts: An additional 3 to 5 inches of snow is anticipated, with the heaviest accumulations expected along the Chautauqua Ridge and Boston Hills.
  • Timing: Snowfall will intensify late Thursday afternoon, persisting through the evening and into the first half of the night.
  • Impacts: Roads will likely be snow-covered and slippery, with reduced visibility posing a challenge for drivers. The Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes are expected to be particularly hazardous.

Safety Recommendations:
Motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving, reduce speed, and allow extra travel time. Ensure vehicles are equipped for winter weather, including functioning wipers and sufficient tire tread.

Residents are encouraged to report snow conditions through the NWS website or on social media platforms to assist in monitoring the weather’s impact.
