(WNY News Now) – ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A Rochester man previously convicted of a child sexual abuse material (CSAM) offense has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison following a new conviction for possessing CSAM.

Gregory Pum, 49, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa, who also ordered 10 years of supervised release after his prison term. Pum was convicted of possessing CSAM as an individual with a prior sex offense, according to U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross.

Repeat Offender with Prior Conviction

In 2014, Pum was convicted in Monroe County Court for possessing sexual performance by a child under 16. He was sentenced to six months in jail and 10 years of probation but later violated the terms of his probation, resulting in a prison sentence. Pum was discharged from parole in 2016.

Investigation and Cyber Tips

In May 2022, law enforcement received multiple cybertips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The tips indicated that an email account linked to Pum had been used to upload 29 images and a video of CSAM to a file-sharing site. A subsequent search of the email account revealed additional instances of CSAM uploads.

In June 2022, authorities executed a search warrant at Pum’s residence, seizing electronic devices containing CSAM. While on pretrial release, Pum was subjected to another search in March 2024 after receiving further NCMEC cybertips. Investigators discovered an iPhone containing 19 images and a video of CSAM.

Coordinated Investigation

The investigation involved the New York State Police, led by Major Kevin Sucher, the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia, and the NCMEC. Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn M. Hartford prosecuted the case.
