(WNY News Now) – A Panama resident faces multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest, following a hit-and-run incident in Jamestown early Sunday morning.
JAMESTOWN, NY – On January 26, 2025, at approximately 12:00 a.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s Third Platoon responded to a motor vehicle accident on West 3rd Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered the vehicle involved had fled the scene.
At approximately 1:18 a.m., the Jamestown Police K-9 Unit located the suspect vehicle on East 2nd Street and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 27-year-old Carlos J. Ruiz of Panama, NY, was determined to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated.
During the arrest, Ruiz reportedly resisted officers, engaging in a physical struggle before being subdued and taken into custody. Further investigation revealed that Ruiz’s driving privileges in New York State were revoked due to previous DWI convictions. Additionally, he was wanted on a felony charge from the City of Olean.
Ruiz faces multiple charges, including:
- Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident
- Driving While Intoxicated (DWI)
- Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree (AUO 1st)
- Resisting Arrest
Ruiz was transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
