(WNY News Now) – LOCKPORT, NY – Schuyler P. Johnson, 53, of Sanborn, was sentenced to four years in state prison followed by three years of post-release supervision for menacing a police officer, Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced. The sentence was issued by County Court Judge Caroline A. Wojtaszek.
Johnson pleaded guilty to the charge on November 27, 2024. The conviction stems from an incident on December 23, 2023, when Johnson was driving at excessive speeds, causing his vehicle to overturn. When Niagara County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the crash, Johnson intentionally set fire to a patrol vehicle and threatened a deputy with a knife.
“This defendant’s outrageous conduct endangered not only the two deputies but the entire community,” said Seaman. “The judge’s sentence not only ensures public safety but sends a clear message to the community.”
The case was investigated by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Vehicular Crimes Bureau Chief Christine Savoia and Assistant District Attorney Mattie Davis.
