(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – A Jamestown man was arrested Saturday afternoon after being found unresponsive behind the wheel with a child in the vehicle, authorities said.

According to the Jamestown Police Department, officers responded to a welfare check at the intersection of Foote Avenue and Allen Street around 12:20 p.m. on February 22. Upon arrival, officers discovered 23-year-old Samuel Buck unconscious in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle, which was still in gear. A small child was also in the back seat.

Police forced entry into the vehicle to assist Buck and safely remove the child. The child was later released to a family member.

Following an investigation, officers determined that Buck had been operating the vehicle while impaired by drugs. After receiving medical treatment at a local hospital, he was taken into custody and transported to Jamestown City Jail.

Buck faces felony charges of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs under Leandra’s Law and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He remains held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
