(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A 29-year-old Jamestown man was taken into custody Friday night after leading police on a vehicle and foot pursuit that ended in a crash.

According to the Jamestown Police Department, officers from the second platoon attempted to stop a tan Dodge Caravan at approximately 7:53 p.m. on the city’s northside for multiple moving violations. The driver, later identified as Zachary A. Graves, failed to comply, leading officers on a pursuit through city streets and into the Town of Ellicott.

The chase concluded when Graves crashed into a private property gate and fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, officers apprehended him. During an inventory search, police found 1.0 gram of crack cocaine and 0.1 gram of fentanyl in his possession.

Graves faces multiple charges, including Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Reckless Driving, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Second Degree, and 26 vehicle and traffic infractions.

Jamestown Police were assisted by the New York State Police and the Town of Ellicott Police Department. Graves is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
