(WNY News Now) – Chautauqua County Sheriff James B. Quattrone announced today that local police agencies, along with STOP-DWI Coordinators, will take part in the statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign running from Friday, March 14 through Monday, March 17, in observance of St. Patrick’s Day. This special initiative aims to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving, especially during the busy holiday weekend.
With numerous St. Patrick’s Day celebrations planned throughout the state, alcohol consumption increases, and unfortunately, so do impaired driving incidents. To combat this, law enforcement officers across New York State, including in Chautauqua County, will increase patrols and engage in heightened enforcement efforts to deter drunk and impaired driving, prevent accidents, and save lives.
The STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign is a statewide effort supported by STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. The program focuses on key holiday periods such as Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the Holiday Season, with the goal of reducing impaired driving through increased visibility and public education.
The campaign encourages drivers to plan ahead and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. A key part of the initiative is the “Have a Plan” mobile app, available for download at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp. The app provides users with easy access to resources to find safe transportation options.
This St. Patrick’s Day, the STOP-DWI initiative reminds all drivers that impaired driving is not only dangerous but preventable. With proper planning, everyone can enjoy the festivities and make responsible decisions on the road.
