(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A Buffalo man with a prior weapons conviction has been sentenced to 15 years in prison following his 2023 arrest in Jamestown.
Dion Carr, 39, was arrested on June 16, 2023, during a traffic stop by the Jamestown Police Department. A search of his vehicle uncovered a 9mm pistol beneath the driver’s seat. Carr, previously convicted of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in 2013, pleaded guilty to second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon on April 11, 2024. However, he failed to appear for sentencing, leading to a bench warrant for his arrest.
On September 26, 2024, Carr was again arrested by Jamestown police and charged with possessing a loaded firearm and narcotics. A Chautauqua County Grand Jury indicted him on those charges in January 2025, and the case remains pending.
On March 14, Carr was sentenced in Chautauqua County Court as a second violent felony offender. He received the maximum determinate sentence of 15 years in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
Carr is scheduled to appear in court on April 28 for the pending firearm charges. District Attorney Jason Schmidt commended the Jamestown Police Department for their work on the case.
