(WNY News Now) – Darin L. Butts, Jr., 31, of Celoron, NY, will serve a 10-year prison sentence for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, U.S. Attorney announces.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Darin L. Butts, Jr., 31, of Celoron, NY, has been sentenced to 120 months (10 years) in prison for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. The sentence, announced by U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo, was handed down by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Louis A. Testani, who prosecuted the case, the conviction stems from a series of controlled buys. Between July and August 2023, investigators made seven purchases of methamphetamine and fentanyl from Butts. These transactions led to the execution of search warrants at Butts’ home and two vehicles on August 23, 2023. Law enforcement discovered approximately 610 grams of methamphetamine, including smaller, individual packages, as well as drug paraphernalia and $14,829 in cash, believed to be proceeds from his trafficking operation.
A follow-up search on May 3, 2024, led to the seizure of additional suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl, and more drug paraphernalia from Butts’ residence.
The investigation was conducted by the Jamestown Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, the Ellicott Police Department, and the Dunkirk Police Department.
