(WNY News Now) – A Buffalo man will spend the next decade in federal prison following convictions for drug trafficking, firearm possession, and a violent robbery at a college dorm.
BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced on Tuesday that 26-year-old Nader Ngoopos, also known as “Nike,” has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for multiple drug and firearm offenses. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr.
Ngoopos pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute over 500 grams of cocaine and over 100 grams of heroin, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Evan K. Glaberson, from 2016 through late 2018, Ngoopos and others trafficked cocaine and heroin from Buffalo to Olean, New York. Ngoopos made weekly trips to Olean, distributing drugs from locations on North 8th Street and South 11th Street. Co-conspirators also sold drugs regularly as part of the operation.
One of the most serious charges stemmed from an armed robbery on October 15, 2018, at St. Bonaventure University. Prosecutors say Ngoopos and two others forced their way into a dormitory room, believing they would find marijuana and cash. Armed with a firearm, Ngoopos and his accomplices pointed their weapons at two occupants and stole an ounce of marijuana and between $300 and $400.
On September 2, 2021, Ngoopos led law enforcement on a high-speed chase in Buffalo. When the vehicle came to a stop on East Amherst Street, Ngoopos fled on foot, discarding a pistol during his escape. At the time, he was legally barred from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction in Cattaraugus County in June 2020.
The case was the result of a multi-agency investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in cooperation with the Olean Police Department, the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, the Buffalo Police Department, and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.
