(WNY News Now) – A Jamestown man was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon following a street check that led to the discovery of drugs and multiple active warrants.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – On April 8, 2025, at approximately 3:46 p.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department conducted a street check on the city’s west side that resulted in the arrest of 55-year-old James K. Johnson, a resident of Jamestown.

During the patrol, officers identified Johnson, who was known to have an active warrant through the Jamestown City Court for failure to appear. Upon further investigation, police determined that Johnson was also wanted by the Lakewood-Busti Police Department on charges of Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree and Burglary in the 3rd Degree, as well as by Pennsylvania Parole for an alleged parole violation.

Johnson was taken into custody without incident. While being searched, officers reportedly discovered quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl on his person. As a result, Johnson was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and being a Fugitive from Justice, in addition to the outstanding local warrants.

He was transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where he is currently being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court and extradition related to the out-of-state warrant. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
