(WNY News Now) – A Buffalo man will serve five years in federal prison after being convicted of possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced Friday that Hector Anaya, 51, of Buffalo, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison following his conviction for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey E. Intravatola, the case began in April 2024 when Buffalo Police detectives received a tip that Anaya was in possession of a significant quantity of narcotics. Detectives conducted surveillance at Anaya’s residence and observed three hand-to-hand drug transactions during controlled purchases involving suspected heroin and cocaine.

On April 25, 2024, investigators executed a search warrant at Anaya’s home. During the search, they recovered a firearm, ammunition, and a quantity of suspected fentanyl. Anaya was arrested at the scene.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), led by Special Agent-in-Charge Bryan Miller, and the Buffalo Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Alphonse Wright.
