(WNY News Now) – An 18-year-old from Depew faces multiple felony charges after allegedly shooting a woman outside a store earlier this month.

DEPEW, NY — Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced the indictment of an 18-year-old male from Depew in connection with a shooting that seriously injured a 20-year-old woman outside a plaza on Broadway.

The defendant, who was 17 at the time of the incident, was arraigned on May 30, 2025, before Youth Part Judge Brenda Freedman. He is charged with one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, one count of Assault in the First Degree (both Class “B” violent felonies), one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony), and one count of Assault in the Second Degree (Class “D” violent felony).

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in front of a store located in the 5100 block of Broadway in the Village of Depew. Investigators allege the teen used an illegal firearm with the intent to kill, striking the female victim. She was transported to ECMC by ambulance and treated for serious injuries.

The suspect was arrested later that evening and remains in custody at the Erie County Youth Services Center without bail. A temporary order of protection has been issued on behalf of the victim and remains active.

The next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. for a pre-trial conference in Youth Part.









District Attorney Keane praised the Depew Police Department for leading the investigation and acknowledged support from the Lancaster Police Department.

The case is being prosecuted by Chief Noha A. Elnakib and Assistant District Attorney Taylor L. Yensan of the Raise the Age/Motor Vehicle Theft Insurance Fraud Unit.

As with all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
