(WNY News Now) – A 43-year-old Jamestown resident was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly burglarizing a local business and stealing over $3,000 in property.
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – A burglary in progress on the west side of Jamestown led to the arrest of Joseph M. Helms, 43, after officers responded to the scene early Thursday morning.
According to the Jamestown Police Department, officers from the First Platoon were dispatched around 7:30 a.m. on May 29, 2025, following a report of a burglary at a west side business. The business owner reportedly caught the suspect in the act and directed officers to the individual as he attempted to flee.
Police quickly identified the suspect as Helms, a city resident. An investigation revealed that Helms had entered the garage of the business during the early morning hours and removed property valued at over $3,000.
Helms was taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail. He is currently being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
He faces multiple charges including Burglary in the Third Degree, Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, and Possession of Burglar Tools. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
