(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Flood Watch for parts of Western New York, effective from the afternoon of Tuesday, June 10, through 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 11. The alert was issued at 3:51 a.m. Monday.
The affected counties include Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Southern Erie, Wayne, and Wyoming.
According to the NWS, flash flooding may occur due to excessive rainfall as a slow-moving cold front moves across the region. The potential for repeated thunderstorms over the same areas increases the risk of poor drainage flooding and flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone locations such as rivers, creeks, and streams.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to closely monitor local forecasts and be prepared to act quickly if Flash Flood Warnings are issued.
