Severe thunderstorms prompt urgent warning for flash flooding through 9:15 PM
(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Flash Flood Warning effective until 9:15 p.m. EDT on Friday, June 27, for southern Cattaraugus County and southeastern Chautauqua County in western New York.
As of 5:11 p.m., Doppler radar indicated that slow-moving thunderstorms were producing heavy rainfall across the affected region. Up to 2.25 inches of rain had already fallen, with an additional 1 to 2 inches expected. Flash flooding is either ongoing or anticipated to begin shortly.

Impact: Flooding of small creeks, streams, roadways, underpasses, and other low-lying or poor-drainage areas
Communities at risk include Salamanca, Allegany State Park, Ashford, Franklinville, Frewsburg, Great Valley, New Albion, Carrollton, Randolph, Napoli, Little Valley, East Randolph, Ellicottville, Kill Buck, Cattaraugus
County Landfill, Steamburg, Allegheny Reservoir, and Onoville.
Residents are urged to avoid driving on flooded roads. According to the NWS, most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. Campers and hikers should stay away from creeks and streams, which can rise quickly in heavy rain conditions.
Emergency officials advise the public to report any flooding to local authorities and to avoid affected areas when possible.
