Mohammed Tanbir receives five years of probation after admitting to filing forged medical forms related to illegal window tinting.
(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, NY – Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced that 28-year-old Mohammed R. Tanbir of Buffalo was sentenced to five years of probation on Monday for falsifying Department of Motor Vehicles documents following a fatal pedestrian crash in 2023.
The incident occurred on the night of Saturday, July 15, 2023, when Tanbir was driving on Elmwood Avenue and struck 21-year-old Sydney C. Lohr as she crossed the street near Forest Avenue in Buffalo. Lohr was transported to ECMC, where she later died from her injuries.
During the investigation, authorities found that Tanbir’s vehicle had heavily tinted windows, which contributed to the scrutiny of his DMV documentation. Investigators later discovered that between 2020 and 2022, Tanbir submitted fraudulent medical exemption forms to the New York State DMV, falsely claiming a condition that allowed him to install the illegal tints. The forms included a forged doctor’s signature.
In February 2025, Tanbir pleaded guilty to three counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree, Class D felonies. He admitted to the highest charges in the indictment.
District Attorney Keane recognized the work of Confidential Criminal Investigator Bob Bebak and praised Assistant District Attorney Brian P. Dassero of the Special Investigations and Prosecutions Bureau for successfully prosecuting the case.
