(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. – A federal grand jury has indicted a Niagara Falls man on multiple drug and firearm charges, U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced.
According to the indictment, 70-year-old Charles Barker faces charges of narcotics conspiracy, attempted possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. If convicted, Barker could face a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life, and a fine of up to $10 million.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt I. Kass, who is prosecuting the case, stated that between June 11 and June 17, 2025, Barker allegedly conspired with others to receive large quantities of methamphetamine at his Niagara Falls residence for distribution. Federal investigators say a June 17 search of Barker’s home uncovered significant amounts of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, cash, a shotgun, and ammunition.
Court records note that Barker has a prior felony conviction in Niagara County from April 2012, which legally prohibits him from possessing firearms and ammunition.
Barker was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy and was released on home confinement.
The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Frank Tarentino of the New York Field Division, and the United States Postal Inspection Service, under Inspector-in-Charge Ketty Larco Ward of the Boston Division.
Authorities emphasized that an indictment is a formal charge and not proof of guilt. Barker is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
