BUFFALO, N.Y. – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued multiple Frost Advisories across Western New York, effective from early Thursday morning until 9 a.m. EDT.

According to the NWS, temperatures are expected to drop into the mid-30s, resulting in patchy to widespread frost formation. The advisories cover Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties.

Forecasters warn that frost could damage or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left unprotected. Residents are advised to take preventive measures, such as covering or bringing in tender plants and flowers.

The advisory for Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, and Chautauqua counties remains in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Thursday, while Cattaraugus and Allegany counties are under an advisory from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Thursday.

The NWS urges homeowners, gardeners, and farmers to prepare for near-freezing conditions that could affect crops and outdoor plants.

This early October frost serves as a reminder that colder temperatures are returning to the region, signaling the onset of the fall-to-winter transition.
