(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A Dunkirk resident was taken into custody early Saturday morning after a vehicle stop led to multiple charges, including drug possession and resisting arrest, according to the Jamestown Police Department.

On October 11, 2025, around 1:20 a.m., officers with the Jamestown Police Department were conducting a GIVE Targeted Patrol Detail when they observed a vehicle committing several traffic violations near East 6th Street and Grant Street. Officers initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Clarence J. Williams III, of Dunkirk.

During the investigation, police said Williams provided a false name in an attempt to avoid arrest on an outstanding warrant from the Hamburg Police Department. When officers instructed him to exit the vehicle, Williams allegedly refused to comply, prompting officers to remove him from the car.

Police reported that Williams resisted arrest during the encounter and attempted to discard a quantity of cocaine at the scene. Officers were able to gain control of the situation and take him into custody without further incident.

Williams was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, False Personation, and Tampering with Physical Evidence, in addition to being held on the outstanding warrant.

He was transported to the Jamestown City Jail and held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
