(WNY News Now) – A Dunkirk man was taken into custody after attempting to flee police, who later discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his possession.

DUNKIRK, N.Y. — The Dunkirk Police Department reports the arrest of 36-year-old Christopher S. Stercula following a brief foot pursuit on Saturday, November 1, 2025, around 4:34 p.m. near Middle Road and South Martin Street.

According to police, officers from the 3–11 p.m. patrol shift observed Stercula, who was known to have an active warrant issued by Dunkirk City Court. When officers advised him of the warrant and instructed him to stop, Stercula reportedly fled on foot through several backyards.

Officers pursued and quickly apprehended Stercula without further incident. Upon taking him into custody, police allegedly found a baggie containing a white powdery substance, several small baggies, and a quantity of cash. Field testing later confirmed the substance was methamphetamine, police said.

Stercula was charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (PL 220.16 07)
  • Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree (PL 220.50 02)
  • Resisting Arrest (PL 205.30)

He was held on the existing warrant as well as the new charges. The case was presented before Hon. Judge John Kuzdale in Dunkirk City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
