(WNY News Now) – MACHIAS, N.Y. — A Machias resident was arrested Monday morning after a burglary investigation in the Town of Great Valley led authorities to execute a search warrant at his home, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred on March 30, 2026, at approximately 11:15 a.m., when deputies arrested 43-year-old Andrew F. Crooks at a residence on Route 16 in Machias.

Authorities said the arrest followed a burglary complaint reported in Great Valley. As part of the investigation, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Crooks’ residence, where they allegedly discovered methamphetamine and multiple items reported stolen in connection with the burglary.

Crooks was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the third degree, Burglary in the third degree, and Grand Larceny in the fourth degree.

Following processing, Crooks was arraigned in the Town of Machias Court and released. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The investigation was conducted by multiple agencies, including the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, Road Patrol, and Criminal Investigation Bureau, along with the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force. The task force includes members from the Salamanca Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office.
