Olean Man Arrested Following Car Chase On I-86

OLEAN – An Olean man faces a slew of charges following a vehicle pursuit that started in the City of Salamanca, continued on I-86 and eventually ended in the City of Olean early Saturday morning.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office charged Brandon M. Blackshear, 35, with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, reckless driving, resisting arrest, driving while ability impaired by drugs, unlawful fleeing a police officer, multiple vehicle, traffic and parole violations.

Deputies said Salamanca Police Officers attempted to stop a four-door white sedan operated by Blackshear. Police said Blackshear refused to stop and fled onto I-86 and out of the City of Salamanca.


The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office then took over the pursuit.

Deputies said Blackshear traveled eastbound at high rates of speed.

Blackshear, then, exited the highway at exit 26 and continued on Route 16 towards Olean.



Deputies said Blackshear fled through Olean until deputies, with the assistance of Olean Police, were able to stop his vehicle. Blackshear then allegedly ran away from police on foot.

After a short foot pursuit, Blackshear was taken into custody.

Deputies said he was taken to Cattaraugus County Jail without bail and is due in several court jurisdictions to face the charges at a later date.
