Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Warns Of Mail Scam

LITTLE VALLEY – The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a recent scam that is effected the area.

Deputies report that several residents have reported receiving a letter in the mail from “DotService.com” regarding Department of Transportation (DOT) numbers.

The letter informs recipients that their DOT number is past due and they need to complete their “Biennial Update” or else have their DOT number deactivated and face a civil penalty of $1,000 per day, up to $10,000.


The Department of Motor Vehicle Services has been made aware of the letters and confirmed it is a scam.

The Sheriff’s Office says that if anyone receive one of these letters, they shouldn’t respond to it or provide personal information if contacted by phone regarding the request.
