Man Accused Of Receiving Nearly $10,000 In Unentitled Unemployment Benefits

OLEAN – A City of Olean man is facing charges after allegedly receiving nearly $10,000 in unemployment benefits he was not entitled to.

New York State Police said Mark E. Barber, 50, is charged with third-degree grand larceny and first degree filing a false instrument.

Troopers said following an investigation that started in April, they discovered Barber filed false paperwork with the New York State Department of Labor and he allegedly obtained $9,226.25 of unemployment benefits to which he was not entitled.


Barber was arrested and arraigned in Olean City Court. Police said he was released on his own recognizance and is due to return to court in July.
