Chautauqua Institution To Host Food Festival This Week

CHAUTAUQUA – Chautauqua Institution will host the Chautauqua Food Festival from Sunday, Aug. 18, through Friday, Aug. 23. This third annual event coincides with a week of programming in partnership with world-famous trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center, including lectures and performances on the theme of “Exploring Race and Culture in America.”

The Institution’s town square, Bestor Plaza, will have tastings and other experiences offered by a daily roster of the region’s finest restaurants, farms, wineries and breweries.

The festival begins with a Bavarian Garden and an Ultimate Wine and Beer Tasting from 12 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission to the Chautauqua grounds on Sundays is always free. Tickets to the Ultimate Wine and Beer Tasting are $25 can be purchased on site or by calling 716-357-6250.





The Food Festival continues from noon to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 8 p.m. each weekday. Visit chq.org/foodfestival for complete details. All food and drink vendors will accept tasting tickets, available in packs of five from Tickets and Info tents on Bestor Plaza for $10. A Chautauqua Institution gate pass is required to access the grounds and also permits access to all events in the Amphitheater, including two Wynton Marsalis lecture programs (Monday and Friday), three performances by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday), and concerts by emerging artist Gina Chavez (Monday) and the legendary Beach Boys (Wednesday). At 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Thursday and Friday, the Chautauqua Food Festival will feature special $99 Chef Tasting Dinners at the Athenaeum Hotel Parlor. Five- or six-course tasting menus with wine pairings will be prepared by Ross Warhol, executive chef of Oliver’s Restaurant in Buffalo (Monday); Edward Work, executive chef of Heirloom Restaurant at Chautauqua’s Athenaeum Hotel (Thursday); and Ben Shropshire, executive chef of the President’s Cottage at Chautauqua (Friday).
