MAYVILLE – The local American Legion and the Chautauqua County Veterans Council will be holding a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Wednesday, September 11 at noon in front of the Chautauqua County Courthouse, 1 N. Erie St. in Mayville.

The program is to honor and remember the over 3,000 Americans who were killed on September 11, 2001 when members of the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four planes and crashed them in the World Trade Center in New York City, the pentagon just outside of Washington, D.C., and a field in Western Pennsylvania.

“This September 11th we honor and remember those whose lives were tragically cut short on that horrific day in 2001,” said Chautauqua County Executive George Borrello. “But let the remembrance of that day also serve as a reminder to every citizen of our county, and our nation, that the war on terror is not over and we must remain forever strong and diligent.”

The short program is open to the public and will feature a few words from local dignitaries.
