WEST ELLICOTT – A Minnesota-based outdoors store that moved into the former Sam’s Club building on Fairmount Avenue opened Thursday morning.
Runnings Manager Rob Szymendera told WNYNewsNow when they opened their doors at 8 a.m. around 40 people were waiting outside. Hundreds more filled in throughout the morning.
“The last three weeks leading up to this, people would come into the store and want to take a look,” said Szymendera. “The town has been very supportive of us coming.”
Runnings sells a variety of sporting goods, clothing, footwear, farm supplies and outdoor equipment.
Szymendera said an official grand opening will take place between October 9 and 13 with special deals and discounts.
The store is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The local operation has provided around 50 new jobs to the area.
In total, the company has 45 stores across the nation employing more than 2,000 people.
