Jamestown Man Charged With Overnight Shooting Death In Sherman

SHERMAN – A City of Jamestown man was arrested early Sunday after sheriff deputies accused him of shooting and killing a man in the Village of Sherman overnight.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says that Julio E. Motanez, 25, is charged with first-degree manslaughter.

Investigators alleged that Motanez shot and killed Justin M. Gibbons, 29, of Mayville, following a dispute in an alleyway near, 114 W. Main St., just after 1:30 a.m.

Gibbons was shot multiple times while he was attempting to flee the area in a vehicle, investigators said.

He was transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital by the Sherman Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.

Deputies said Montanez was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail pending arraignment.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Chautauqua County District Attorney, the Chautauqua County Forensic Investigation Team, the Sherman Volunteer Fire Department, New York State Police and the Chautauqua County Corners Office.
