One Killed After Vehicle Crashes Into Ditch In Cattaraugus County

EAST OTTO – One person was killed Wednesday afternoon after a vehicle crashed into a ditch on East Otto-Springville Road in the Town of East Otto.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reports a vehicle driven by Terry Francis, 56, Tonawanda, was traveling north on the roadway when he lost control just after 4:30 p.m.







Deputies said the vehicle went off the roadway, continued several hundred feet along a ditch, went airborne over a creek and then crashed into an embankment on the opposite side of the creek.

Francis was airlifted from the scene to ECMC with serious injuries.







A passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies said the deceased’s name will not be released until family is notified.

The roadway was closed for several hours as investigators worked the scene.













Deputies say no charges are expected at this time, although, the investigation remains ongoing.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by East Otto Fire and EMS, Mercy EMS and Mercy Flight.
