JAMESTOWN – Community leaders in Jamestown are working to establish the city’s first pride festival.

Sheridan Smith, a Certified Peer Specialist with the Mental Health Association in Chautauqua County, says the association’s LGBTQIA+ support group met this week to plan Jamestown Pride 2020.
Smith says details of the event are currently in the works, but, the festival like atmosphere aims to highlight the area as a place for families to live safely and happily by bringing together the LGBTQIA+ community and allies.
“We had a great turnout with many organizations sending representatives to be included in the planning to support the LGBTQIA+ community. Mayor-Elect Eddie Sundquist also attended to lend his voice and support for the event,” explained Smith. “We have a large and vibrant community, and through communication we can create a wonderful festival to add to all the other wonderful events Chautauqua County has every year.”
The next Jamestown Pride planning meeting will be held at the MHA from 7 to 9 p.m., on Tuesday, January 7. Smith says the meeting will be open to anyone who wants to share ideas.
Jamestown Pride 2020 is scheduled to take place the second weekend of June.
