CHAUTAUQUA – A City of Jamestown native will become the Chautauqua Institution’s next organist.
Institution officials announced this week that Joshua Stafford was appointed the center’s interim organist for the 2020 season.
Stafford, succeeding his mentor and teacher late Jared Jacobsen, will fill the position during the nine-week summer season as the Massey Memorial Organ’s principal performer.
Institution officials say they are fortunate to have someone of Stafford’s talent to step into the job.
Stafford currently serves year-round as the Director of Music at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in New Jersey.
The former organist, Jared Jacobsen, died following a car crash in Geneva, Ohio this year.
Jacobsen was an organist and the Institution’s Coordinator of Worship and Sacred Music for nearly 25 years.
