WASHINGTON – Jobless claims released Thursday show 2.4 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week, bringing the total nationwide to more than 38 million since mid-March.

The President says the jobs are only temporarily lost.

“I think a lot of these states, the ones that are sort of sticking to a very rigid pattern, I think they are going to stop,” said President Trump while touring a Ford plant in Michigan. “I don’t think that people are going to stand for it. This is a country that is meant to be open, not closed.”

Although, some workers paint a darker picture of the nation’s economic future. Fearful states are opening up too soon, and businesses aren’t prepared to do it safely.
