LITTLE VALLEY – The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department has received several reports of a possible telephone scam during the last few days, according to County Sheriff Timothy Whitcomb.

His office “has been receiving calls from area residents who have been contacted by an individual claiming to be from the gas and electric company” informing residents they are eligible for refunds for over paying their utility bills.

The caller then asks several prompts that lead to seeking personal information.

“We are warning the public this is a phone scam, do not give any personal information to anyone over the phone,” Whitcomb warned.
