Cuomo: School Reopening Decision Set For Early August

ALBANY — A decision regarding the reopening of schools throughout New York State will be made during the first week of August.

That’s according to Governor Andrew Cuomo, who made the announcement during a press briefing Wednesday morning in New York City. Cuomo says his office is consulting with all stakeholders on guidance, which will be finalized Monday.

Plans regarding reopening are to be submitted on July 31.

Cuomo says that the reopening of schools is a state decision, not a decision of the federal government. The Governor adds that the decision will be made based on the science and data that is presented throughout July.

Cuomo also announced that malls in Phase 4 regions can reopen starting Friday as long as they have enhanced HVAC filtration systems and measures in place. He says safe ventilation is crucial.
