(WNY News Now) – FORESTVILLE, N.Y. — A Pennsylvania man is facing multiple charges after deputies said he left the scene of a property damage crash and was later found impaired while driving in the Town of Hanover.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and the New York State Police responded to a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident on Main Street in Forestville at about 3:27 p.m. on April 23.

Investigators said the vehicle was located a short time later, and the driver was identified as David P. Johnson, 56, of Erie, Pennsylvania.

After an investigation, deputies determined Johnson was allegedly driving while ability impaired by alcohol. He was taken into custody and transported to the Hanover Substation for processing.

Johnson was issued appearance tickets charging him with:

  • Driving while ability impaired by alcohol
  • Consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle
  • Leaving the scene of a property damage accident
  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to stop at a stop sign
  • Passing a stopped vehicle at an intersection
  • Improper passing
  • Driving left of pavement markings
  • Failure to keep right
  • Operating a vehicle without a front or rear bumper
  • Operating an unregistered motor vehicle

Authorities said Johnson is scheduled to appear in Town of Hanover Court at a later date to respond to the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
