Tractor Trailer, Towncar, Minivan Crash On I-86 In Chautauqua County

SHERMAN – A tractor trailer hauling 45,000 lbs of molded auto parts crashed in the median of I-86 on Wednesday night.

New York State Police tell WNYNewsNow the crash happened in the eastbound lane around 9 p.m. when the big rig struck a 1999 Lincoln Towncar hauling a minivan.

Troopers say the passenger vehicle was believed to be going approximately 35 to 40 m.p.h. when it was hit.


The collision, police say, forced the vehicles into the median causing significant damage.

Both the driver of the tractor trailer, a 53-year-old Ohio man and the driver of the Towncar, a 43-year-old Great Valley man, were not hurt.

The Ashville Fire Department assisted State Police with the temporary closure of the highway in order to remove the vehicles involved in the crash.
