LITTLE VALLEY – Cattaraugus County is joining several communities from across the area by letting families to decide whether or not to take part in Halloween night trick-or-treating.

On Thursday the County’s Health Department released guidelines for the spooky holiday.

Leaders say trick-or-treating events need to incorporate social distancing, masking, and proper handwashing, as well as adherence to event size limitations.

Those who are at risk for severe illness should not attend in-person Halloween celebrations, officials say.

If you’re handing out candy, wash your hands thoroughly beforehand and whenever you refill the candy bowl.

Furthermore, the Health Department says anyone who thinks they could have COVID-19 or may have been exposed to someone with it, should not participate in in-person Halloween festivities and should not give out candy to trick-or-treaters.
