
MAYVILLE — Chautauqua County had the eighth worst unemployment rate in New York State in December, according to statistics released by the Department of Labor.
The unemployment rate in Chautauqua increased in December after a November decline, reaching the highest number since August.
The latest statistics from the Department of Labor shows the jobless rate in December was 7.8 percent, an increase from November’s 6.3 percent.
The rate in August was 9.4 percent, 6.2 percent in September and 6.9 percent in October.
One year ago, the county jobless numbers showed a 7.8 percent rate.
Some labor officials blame the COVID-19 pandemic and winter storms for the increases in the national rate, where they report 144,000 jobs were lost. The national unemployment rate is 6.5 percent.
Cattaraugus County registered a December unemployment rate 6.4 percent.
The worst unemployment rate in New York was the Bronx, with 15.1 percent unemployment. Tompkins County had the lowest jobless rate at 4.3 percent.
Thank you Cuomo for destroying NY. Your policies have caused mass hardships for hard working New Yorkers and your nursing home policies have killed many of our loved ones. You should be charged wit 15,000 counts of manslaughter. If you truly want to help NY Mr. Cuomo resign that’s the best thing you can do at this point.
