JAMESTOWN – The National Comedy Center and Chautauqua County Board of Elections have reached an agreement calling for the NCC to serve as a polling site for Ward III this year.

Officials from the NCC told WNY News Now in a statement Thursday afternoon that the Board of Elections “addressed our concerns” on a variety of issues.

“We appreciate the spirit with which this has been resolved, and the County BOE’s understanding of the challenges for the Comedy Center’s business operations during voting days,” officials said. “The County BOE addressed our concerns regarding the state statute on polling sites with a liquor license, and will use its best efforts to adhere to all National Comedy Center “LaughSafe” health and safety protocols while those precautions remain in place.”

Officials further that they will continue to ensure that local residents feel welcome to visit the NCC year-around.

“Most importantly, we continue to welcome the constituents of Ward 3 in Jamestown – whether it’s to vote, to enjoy to the train station concourse, which is fully accessible to the public every day that we are open, or to experience the National Comedy Center museum,” officials explained. “We are working directly with Vickye James as the Councilwoman for Ward 3 to ensure that the Comedy Center is as accessible as possible to local residents year-round.”

Many Jamestown City Council members previously voiced concerns that the center was not going to hold a site there this year.
