ALBANY – A campaign to ramp up enforcement of construction work speed limits is underway across New York State.

As part of “Operation Hard Hat” New York State Police are ramping up patrols in highway work zones across the state in their enforcement of the state’s vehicle and traffic laws.

The campaign, that takes place during National Work Zone Awareness Week, runs through Friday.

State troopers ask drivers to be extra cautious while driving through work zones.

Police say the best thing to do is slow down and move over to give construction crews needed space to do their job.

In last year’s patrol effort, more than 1,700 tickets were issued by the state police agency alone.
