Longtime Chautauqua County Investigator Passes Away Peacefully

JAMESTOWN – A retired member of local law enforcement passed away peacefully Sunday.

According to the Jamestown Police Department Twitter page, Daniel K. Burns after a courageous battle with cancer. Officials say Burns started his law enforcement career with Jamestown Police, later serving as an investigator for 28 years with the New York State Police.











WNY News Now reached out to State Police Captain Eric Balon following the notice Thursday morning. Balon says that Burns had a strong reputation both personally and professionally.

“I worked with him on and off for probably 25 years. He was an exceptional police officer and that lead to his promotion to investigator,” Balon said via text. “He was very well liked and respected by the people he worked with.”

Jamestown Police Captain Robert Samuelson furthered that Burns was assigned to the CNET Drug Investigations for the State Police, and he worked closely with the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force for several years prior to his retirement.









Burns retired from law enforcement in 2017.
