MAYVILLE – New federal funding will soon pave the way for a new runway at the Chautauqua County-Jamestown airport.

The Chautauqua County Legislature voted to approve and accept $6.2 million dollars in Federal Aviation Administration funds during their meeting this week.

County Legislators held high praise for the approval. and believe that the money will have a positive effect on improvements in the county.

“I’d just like to say that this is a big win for the county,” said County Legislator Chuck Nazzaro. “This is a 6.2 million dollar grant to reconstruct the runway at the Chautauqua County Airport and there is no local share on this and normally there would, the $6.2 million is greatly appreciated and will benefit this county.”

Earlier this year, the county airport received $32,000 in federal funds allocated to help airports and transportation systems keep operating while New York works to recover from the pandemic.
